Dressing Up for Fall

Updated: Apr 17, 2019

As the weather has gotten much colder here, I noticed I began to dread getting ready for my days.  This was quite unlike of me, since I usually enjoy the process of getting ready in the mornings.  Especially, since I take the time to choose outfits that help me feel confident in not only myself, but also in my day.

So, I made an effort this past week to choose outfits that made me feel much brighter than the weather outside.

Look 1:

my gold shoes make up for my all black look

My shoes matched the infamous Cubed Houses of Rotterdam, so of course I had to pose in front of them.  I love the idea of contrasting textures and pops of color, and this outfit has just that. This black velvet mini-skirt is my favorite since it can be dressed up or down.  I paired it with a striped, soft sweater that always reminds me of European clubs – probably since most people wear black when they go out here.  Lastly, my favorite shoes – Gold Dr. Martens. With this all-black outfit, my shoes definitely make a statement: beneath all this moodiness with the Netherlands’ cold weather, I am still smiling (and surviving).

Look 2:

mixing patterns left and right

My fashion inspiration for the moment has been CoCo Princess. This fashion princess is always posting fun outfit-of-the-days, since most of her outfits involve clashing patterns. So, for this look, I wore gingham print and stripes.  I am not particularly sure if this is legal in the fashion world, but then again, who cares?

These gingham pants from Zara are perfect, since they are high-waisted and the belted tie is perfect for adding shape to the body.  They are also great for any time of the season – I can even wear them in freezing weather, since I can wear tights underneath them.  A true life-hack.

The striped top from J Crew is one of my favorites, since the red lips make it more fun than just your every day basic shirt. Oh, and yes, I wore a bold lip to match with it.

Look 3:

wine mom on the run

This blazer is perfect for fall. It is perfect to throw on as the season transitions from summer to fall and its color matches the turning of the leaves.  Plus, it makes me look much more sophisticated and as if I have everything together.

The long flowery dress adds to the femininity of this look, which contrasts the hefty Dr. Martens. If I could wear this outfit every day, I would. It says, “wine mom, who just got off work and is now ready to go to the shop to pick up some wine to have a chill night in with friends.”

In conclusion, these three looks made dressing up much more fun in the gloomy weather that has arrived to Utrecht.
